In a world of diverse populations and cultures, Crocodile River Safaris would like to make clear the norms of dress, behaviour, language, and conduct that are expected from our clients.

The following are set out for your clarification. It is not the intention of Crocodile River Safaris to be restrictive but there are standards or norms that need to be applied in order not to cause offence to other clients, your hosts, additional guides, waiters, stewards and your personal guide. Whilst these may be seen as normal practices they are not necessarily understood by all.

Dress Code
In some customs and religions the wearing of short skirts and off the shoulder blouses are frowned upon. This type of dress may also attract the unwanted attention of some. These conflicts may result in the party being denied entry into a building, or depending on the circumstance, in violence.

For this reason clients are requested to bring clothing of a more conservative nature that is unlikely to cause offence.

A list of suggested clothing is set out under the heading of "Things to bring" and will be sent to clients for their guidance.

Unacceptable behaviour
Guests are expected to behave in a polite and acceptable manner at all times. This is particularly important when aboard boats or vehicles and in close proximity to wildlife. The disturbance of wildlife will cause them to move away from the vehicles and roads making game viewing less enjoyable for others.

Clients are reminded that they are guests and as such are expected to moderate their language. Bad language causes offence and may jeopardize the use of some facilities for Crocodile River Safaris and their future guests.

General Conduct
Your guide is not only the representative of Crocodile River Safaris but also your host. His job is to ensure that your safari is run in an organised and safe manner at all times. Please follow the instructions of your guide at all times.
There may be times when your host requires you to act immediately. Please follow his instructions promptly. Discussion can be entered into afterwards.

No Smoking
Crocodile River Safaris operate a no smoking policy. Fire is one of the major threats to the African bushveld and we do not want to be in any way responsible for starting a bush-fire. The game lodges in the area have thatched roofs and and therefore also at risk to fire.

Do not feed the animals
The feeding of animals is considered to be a serious offence. Animals that scavenge for food eventually become a problem for visitors and have to be put down. This can be prevented with your co-operation.

Stay in the vehicle
Visitors must remain in their vehicles unless in a designated area. Your host will advise you when it is possible to leave the vehicle. Visitors and National Parks officials have been attacked and eaten by both lion and leopard. Please do not become a statistic.

No Littering
On safari much of the time is spent travelling in a vehicle please use the refuse bag provided to dispose of sweet papers, fruit peelings and empty drink cans, plastic bags, etc. No litter whatsoever is to be thrown out of the vehicle.

Rules of the road
General rules of the road apply.
Vehicles must remain on the designated roads at all times.
The speed limit is maximum 50 kph on tar roads and 40 kph on gravel roads.

Malaria
The Mpumalanga District is a malaria zone. If you follow a few simple rules it is unlikely that you will contract malaria. It is necessary to avoid exposure to mosquito bites. Therefore, use the repellents and sprays supplied, keep yourself covered at night, sleep under the net provided. Routinely take the prophylactic prescribed by your doctor. Your host will be happy to discuss any preventive measures with you.

Cell phone use
The use of cell phones in the Kruger National Park is permitted only in camps, at the National Park gates and in cases of emergency. Be aware that reception is poor.

Please do not disregard this rule and help to make your visit and that of others memorable.

Insects, spiders and snakes
For your own protection please do not touch any insects, spiders, lizards or snakes. Some of them have lethal bites, whilst a bite or sting from others is very painful. If you are bitten or stung please advise your guide immediately.

Wear shoes at all times
Guests are advised to wear shoes at all times. It is easy to step on a spider, scorpion or snake unintentionally. When walking in the bush it is easy to step on thorns camouflaged in the long grass.

Safety and Security
Many of the inhabitants of the area are poor and therefore see visitors as a potential source of income. For your safety and the security of your possessions we suggest you take the following precautions:-

1. Lock your valuables and travel documents in the safe provided.
2. When out and about do not wear expensive jewellery.
3. Do not carry your wallet in your back pocket.
4. Handbags should be carried under the arm with strap over the shoulder.
5. Do not draw attention to yourself by flashing cash about.
6. Never be on your own in a crowd.
7. Always be aware of who is around you.
8. When travelling keep the vehicle windows closed and the doors locked.
9. Do not leave money or valuable items lying around the lodge.
