Crocodile River Safaris operate wildlife safaris in the Kruger National Park, a Big 5 area. Private Luxury Safari Lodge accommodation is situated in the Marloth Park conservancy, near to Komatipoort and Malelane in Mpumalanga district.

Safari
The word "safari" is taken from the Swahili word safari which means "a journey". It has become the de facto word for a visit to the many African wilderness areas.

Because of this definition your visit to Africa may take in many activities in addition to the traditional wildlife safari.

Southern Africa is an area rich in diversity, as a result of a broad spectrum of climactic conditions.

Wildlife in turn ranges from tiny squirrels weighing just a few ounces to the African elephant weighing several tons.

Combine your safari with a visit to other exciting places

Currently overseas visitors arrive either via Johannesburg or Cape Town. For ease of access to the various activity areas we would suggest that having decided what activities your would like to participate in you allow us to suggest an itinery for you.

Wildlife Safaris
The main reason why many people go on safari is the see the wildlife in its natural surroundings at close quarters, if possible.

The main emphasis of our safari is to ensure that our guests see the animals at a distance at which they are comfortable. Your guide will ensure that you are safe at all times and comfortable in your surroundings.

Game Drives
Game drives take place during the early morning and late afternoon when most of the animals are on the move foraging for their food. Your tour guide will take advantage of the cooler time of the day to show you the animals.

The vehicle will be positioned to provide the best opportunity for you to take spectacular photographs of the wildlife. You will be able to hear, smell and at times almost touch the animals.

Night Drives
During your stay night drives may be organised at your convenience. You will have the opportunity to see those animals that rarely show themselves during the day time. Civet, Serval, Caracal, and Leopard being the most common but sometimes one can see Porcupine, Aardvark, Bushbabies and other shy species.

Your night drive will usually be preceded by a sundowner drink at some prearranged spot where a spectacular sunset may be viewed.

Swimming
During the warmer part of the day guests may like to bath in our crystal clear splash pool which is set in an idyllic surrounding. You may however choose to rest in the shade and read a book. Whatever you choose to do we hope you will relax and let the stress be expelled from your body. You may be lucky to see several species of game drinking and grazing in the garden adjacent to the splash pool.

Bush Walks
Guests may periodically choose to walk in the bush with their guide looking at the lesser wildlife, insects, bird life and reptiles and wide variety of trees, shrubs and flowers. He will explain their life cycle and show you some of their habits that ensure their survival. Learn about the sign (spoor) of the animals and how hunters use this sign to track the animals through the bush. These skills are still in use today.

Hide Observation
Some guests enjoy sitting in one of a number of hides watching the animals and birds come down to a waterhole to drink, whilst at the same time sipping an ice cold drink. This is a very pleasant way to pass the hotter part of the day.

There is always something to do. For most it is a quiet and relaxing atmosphere in which you let the stress of your otherwise busy life be swept away.

Fresh Water Fishing
Spend a quiet day fishing for trout, bass or yellow tail in well stocked dams and streams in the surrounding area. Savour the tranquil surroundings and breath the fresh country air. Enjoy a quiet, exotic picnic lunch and chilled Cape wine in the sunshine (Suggested duration of trip - 1 day or more). For the more adventurous spend some time fishing for the mighty tiger fish.

Tiger Fishing
Board a private boat for a days tiger fishing in the company of a local skipper. Learn about fishing for tiger fish from a local expert. Have a barbecue for lunch and return to a sumptuous dinner. (Suggested duration of trip - 1 day)

Bird Watching
Wherever you go in Southern Africa you are never far away from a wide variety of bird life. Some areas are better than others but we can facilitate some of the best bird watching in the area. Many areas boast as many as 300 species. Many species are known to European visitors because they migrate from Europe.

Local History
The Eastern Transvaal is steeped in history. We can accommodate an historical visit to Pilgrims Rest, the scene of a gold-rush in the early 1900s or to Barbarton site of the first stock exchance in the Transvaal. and where gold was discovered in 1881. Also where flower, the Barberton Daisy (Gerbera jamesoni) was discovered here in 1889 by Robert Jameson.

A guide will provide information about the transport riders, miners and farmers of the area from the appearance of the earliest inhabitants to date. (Suggested duration of trip - 1 day)
