The Crocodile River is one of the main rivers in the Mpumulanga district. It rises in the Roodewal area in the northern Drakensberg in the west and runs east to join the Komati River before entering the Indian Ocean. In doing so it forms the southern boundary of the Kruger National Park before crossing the Mozambique border near Komatipoort.

Our lodge is situated several hundred metres south of the Crocodile River in the Marloth Park conservancy area. Built in a typically South African rustic style the lodge offers a cool retreat from the hot African sun.

Crocodile River Lodge was purchased by the owners as a retreat and is hired out for use as a self catering facility.

This is an ideal location for a safari lodge. Guests can relax in a quiet environment with all the modern conveniences close at hand. They can opt to be as busy as they like or to just rest and let their stress levels subside. Usually a combination of activity and rest seems to be what clients prefer.

A short drive will take us into the southern Kruger National Park where there is an abundance of wildlife including the "Big 5" (elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo). Guests will not return from their safari disappointed.

Your guide will be delighted to share his knowledge with you and to answer your questions.

Guests often ask us what months are best to visit the area. There is no right answer to this question as the countryside is forever changing with the seasons and the animal activity is very much dependant on the time of the year. There is always something interesting to see and learn.

In spring many of the animals give birth and so very young animals are frequently seen. In summer the bush is thick and encounters with the wildlife tend to be much closer. In autumn many of the trees are in fruit attracting a wide variety of birds and in winter one can see much further into the bush and as a result more animals are seen.

Having said that the months from April to September are less humid and therefore the more comfortable months to visit the area.
